You really can't go wrong with this kind of quality at such a low price, we check out the latest vintage of the Kirkland Signature Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Costco.

Kirkland Signature Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – A $9 No-Brainer?

Cabernet Sauvignon from Columbia Valley, Washington State. The wine spends 16 months in American and French oak barrels.

The wine is available exclusively at Costco for just $8.99.

One of the nice trends we've noticed with the Kirkland Signature offerings is that they don't really seem to hide the producers of their wines anymore, like Trader Joe's still often does. As such, we see right on the back label that this wine is made by Brandon Rice. He is the winemaker for a large custom wine bottling plant owned by Jerry Milbrandt of Milbrandt Vineyards. He previously worked for Goose Ridge Vineyards. All good signs.

From the bottle:

Kirkland Signature Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has notes of black currant, spice and vanilla. And after 16 months of barrel age the wine exudes intensity, depth and elegance.

The 2022 Kirkland Signature Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon begins with an aroma of super ripe dark fruit plus vanilla, spice, leather, a little mint and cedar and even a hint of some iron-like minerality.

Taking a sip reveals a rich and tasty medium-bodied wine chock full of more dark fruit and vanilla plus loads of cola notes, a little cedar and spice and a touch of tobacco.

It ends dry, long, oaky and a bit grippy with the minerality from the nose returning at the very end.

Consistent with the previous vintages, this wine really needs quite a lot of air before it really pulls itself together. It gets a lot more balanced and smooths out a bit on day two, so plan appropriately. It's still a great value at this low price.
